ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು(ಮೇ.25): ಟೀಂ ಇಂಡಿಯಾ ನಾಯಕ ವಿರಾಟ್ ಕೊಹ್ಲಿ, ಅಥ್ಲೇಟಿಕ್ಸ್ ದಂತಕಥೆ ಪಿ.ಟಿ. ಉಷಾ, ಒಲಿಂಪಿಕ್ ಚಾಂಪಿಯನ್ ಅಭಿನವ್ ಬಿಂದ್ರಾ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಕ್ರೀಡಾ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಹಲವು ದಿಗ್ಗಜರು ಸೋಮವಾರ(ಮೇ.25) ನಿಧನರಾದ ಹಾಕಿ ಲೆಜೆಂಡ್ ಬಲ್ಬೀರ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಜಾಲತಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ನುಡಿನಮನ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ ಒಲಿಂಪಿಕ್ಸ್ ಚಿನ್ನದ ಪದಕ ವಿಜೇತ ಹಾಕಿ ಆಟಗಾರ ಬಲ್ಬೀರ್ ಸಿಂಗ್(95) ಇಂದು ಖಾಸಗಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆದರು. ಬಲ್ಬೀರ್ 1948, 1952 ಹಾಗೂ 1956ರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಲಿಂಪಿಕ್ಸ್ ಕ್ರೀಡಾಕೂಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡು ಚಿನ್ನದ ಪದಕಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊರಳೊಡ್ಡಿದ್ದರು. ಇನ್ನು 1971ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತ ತಂಡದ ಕೋಚ್ ಆಗಿಯೂ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಈ ವೇಳೆ ಒಲಿಂಪಿಕ್ಸ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತ ಕಂಚಿನ ಪದಕ ಗೆದ್ದುಕೊಂಡಿತ್ತು. 1975ರಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾರತ ತಂಡ ಹಾಕಿ ವಿಶ್ವಕಪ್ ಚಾಂಪಿಯನ್ ಪಟ್ಟ ಅಲಂಕರಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಈ ವೇಳೆ ಬಲ್ಬೀರ್ ತಂಡದ ಮ್ಯಾನೇಜರ್ ಆಗಿ ಕಾರ್ಯನಿರ್ವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
